For the first pet post I thought it would be appropriate to introduce my pet family. I have two cats and a dog all of whom are best friends (most of the time!), oh a few fish too – the tank will need a cleaning before I add pictures of them though!

A little about each:

Both Marigold and Snap are approximately 1year and 3 months old.

Marigold: a short haired orange tabby; Snap’s sister. She is tiny and very sweet. She’s a bit of an acrobat and loves to balance attempting head stands on our beds headboard as she purrs and gets her evening attention. she also keeps my heart rate up as she leaps onto and precariously balances on our 2nd floor balcony rail. This behaviour resulted in my boyfriend welding me a little cat balcony (the yellow carpeted platform pictured above) to safely secure to our balcony and provide a perch with a bit more surface area.

Look what I did!

While this balcony gets a lot of use by both our cats, Marigold still seems to prefer living on the edge and will even lie herself on the thin balcony rail and drift off to sleep! She has however gone over the edge in one of my balcony planters on one occasion … I’ll save that story for a separate post!

Marigold is very curious, but a little more independent and shyer around new people then her brother. Does anyone else find this to be true of most female cats?

Big stretch!

Marigold is especially fond of our dog Levi and will snuggle with him and groom him purring and rolling in gleefulness all the while. She also loves to groom my boyfriend which I know he enjoys though he pretends to be indifferent to the cats (he really loves them too!).

Snap: A short haired grey and black tabby (I don’t really know how to best describe his fur pattern – I know it’s pretty common – is there a name for it, maybe someone could let me know!?); Marigold’s brother. Snap is quite a bit bigger than his sister. Snap is a ham! He greets us at the door like a dog and plops himself on anyone’s lap for some petting. He is also quite vocal and has one of the most awful meows I have ever heard which he uses first thing in the morning to greet us and lead us to his food dish. He’s a great companion when I’m home alone as he like to hang out with me and we even chat a little!

Levi: Our pitbull – he’s a 75 pound muscle bound dog who acts like and is convinced he is a lapdog. He is the biggest suck and the gentlest dog you have ever met.

His favourite thing to do is sleep … in bed … tucked in … with his own pillow, yes it’s true he thinks he is a person! Probably his second favourite thing to do is go for a swim in the lake – he likes this especially when a stick is involved. Levi is a 4 year old male pitbull. He is fixed and wears a muzzle in public according to the new Ontario Law. I think this is a real shame because the muzzle often scares people off and Levi is such a friendly, people and animal loving dog. The muzzle gives people the wrong idea. More on this issue to come in future posts (I promise).

Anyways, those are my animals (minus the little tank of fish). I love to talk about them and well just love animals in general and look forward to the stories you have to share about your pets and any other animal stories you would like to share. I have lots of animal anecdotes I will be sharing on this page so stay tuned if you are a fellow animal lover.
